A boat a bride and a Scottish piper!

Author: Donna Fornasiero

The weekend before last I was lucky enough to be part of a wonderful personal wedding at Peppers Palm Bay. 4 people in total which included the bride and groom. The couple had hired a bare boat to sail the Whitsundays and picked up an outside mooring to perform their wedding on the boat. The reason we were so far out on the mooring was they had hired a Scottish bag piper ‘Mick’ (who owns a cane farm out at prossie!) to pipe the bride to the boat as she arrived via the resort boat. Now weddings on boats are not uncommon but the logistics of organising one as such as even a small one can be quite involved! ……Please …..potential couples with visions of boats as their ceremony venue…yes..this is very romantic…..but please take into account the weather! The weather this day was all over the shop which is not unusual in April!
Lovely bride had hair and makeup done in one of the bungalows and the groom got ready on the boat with his best man. Mick the bagpiper and I went to the boat to await the arrival of the bride. The weather in the meantime as I gazed down the passage between the islands was brewing into a thick squall that was moving fast towards the boat! And there was no way I could tell Justin Heitman from blue turtle video productions who was waiting patiently for the bride to walk down the beach……Justin tells me later he looked behind him and was O#* and got footage as the boat disappeared completely from the rain! I in the meantime was watching a bride start walking down the beach and then start running for cover! Thankfully Bretto the harbour master took everybody out to the boat in the undercover resort boat, not quite the long boat planed but drier trust me!
Mick piped the bride onto the boat and we proceeded as planed with the ceremony on the very wet small space under cover on the back deck. All in all the couple and their friends made this wedding very pleasantly possible, and with much laughing and a lot of love and ‘scotch whisky’ and ‘Scottish dancing’ to our piper a wonderful ceremony was achieved !

Surprise renewal of Vows!

Author: Donna Fornasiero

I have just returned from asking to be part of the most funny renewal of vows! The Husband rang me a little over a week ago and told me him and his wife and their group of friends were coming up to Airlie to hire a bareboat, and while he was here he wanted to surprise his wife of ten years to renew their vows just after dinner at a restaurant. The husband informed me it would be very informal and with his help we put together a very short funny sweet ceremony. He even wrote both their vows for them. Before I arrived he told his wife that because it was their ten year wedding anniversary he had bought with him her wedding dress and that because she loved playing fancy dress she had to go put it on! Just before I made my appearance I went into the ladies and walked in on a lady trying to put a wedding dress on, I had not met either of them before but going on a wild guess I assumed this was his wife. She was trying to button up her dress with the help of her friend. I just said hi and what the hell are you trying to do? The girls laughed and explained to me what was going on. I just laughed and said sounds like a bit of fun and have a great night! Well I waited for a little while until she and her friend walked back to the table and sat down to much laughter from her friends. Then I discreetly walked over to the table and said hi!
The look of surprise was priceless! When the penny dropped I was the person who she had just been talking to and that I had introduced myself as a celebrant!
She was speechless and so were her friends, and with a sly smile her husband told her happy anniversary honey and I’m so happy I would like to extend our contract for another 10 years!
I love being the messenger of love lol!

Lucky Omens

Author: Donna Fornasiero

Did a lovely service for a elopement couple on 3rd of Aug at Peppers Palm bay.
The couple were a lovely English couple living in Melbourne. When I first got there the bride as usual was surrounded by a flutter of activity of hairdressers and makeup artists ….yes this even happens on elopements! When I asked her how her morning had been she said..first thing this morning when they woke up, they both sat up in bed and looked out there bungalow window (The resort bungalows are right on the beach facing the water) and saw a humpback whale breach out of the water, she guessed at about 400m away……she seemed impressed by this as you would however she didn’t come across ed surprised! I told her this doesn’t happen to often especially if your still in bed! and I told her it was a good luck omen.

Its funny you never really see dolphins to often in this area as much as you would think….there quite snobbie up this way. But there are certain weddings I have done and they appear out of no where….this is quite special for everybody

surfboard bride

Author: Donna Fornasiero

O my gosh that would have been one one the best larger weddings I have officiated for in a long time! Only the bride the groom and the boat driver of course, new what the couple were planing o’ and myself! It was quite a funny set of events……when I arrived at the venue the boys had already retrieved the chairs that were set up and had blown off the lawn down the rocks near the water! I set up my signing table and within seconds it was off down the rocks as well! So incidentally we couldn’t set up until minutes before the ceremony as we would be constantly chasing chairs and a table around!……..bridal party was sent off to venue without the bride, which seemed to set off mass confusion on what the hell is going on! and where’s the bride! and what are we meant to do!……got all guests seated on chairs to hold them down and the groom rang his bride…..positioned confused bridal party in there places……Cranked up big wave surfing music on highest volume………wedding guests now looking really confused!….. and assumed my position and looked out to sea…….white cruiser speed boat sparkling in the sunlight starts heading towards us……swerves……….and here comes the bride standing/surfing elegantly on her long board being towed by the boat in a white bikini!! The look on the everybody’s face…..priceless……bride glides board into the jetty ramp jumps off and runs up jetty, runs into venue building and throws on her wedding dress and calmly walks down the isle……….now that’s a entrance!!

My first blog post!

Author: Donna Fornasiero

mmm..OK today I start my blog! Not sure why I’m doing this but I’m told its a good idea, and not that I’m normally a lemming but I guess its a cool way of documenting the world of a wedding celebrant come skipper!
I have a wedding today which sounds like its going to be a lot of fun, the guests think the bride is going to be arriving by car when really she will be surfing a long board behind a boat up to the venue! then getting off at the jetty and running up and throwing on her wedding dress and walking down the isle to a Opera singer!
My thoughts……. I hope she doesn’t fall off all she could be the next UTUBE hit!
